anybody: advice on tcp/ip problem (winxp pro) by EON2008-03-19 10:26:25
A few things to check... by shadowsystems 2008-03-19 10:37:08
* Is the cable bad? Double-check with a known-good cable.

* If you have a firewall running, is it allowing your system access to the net?
Yes, just because it was previously, doesn't mean Windows hasn't bjorked it somehow. Check it Just In Case.

* Are the Services running that are required to allow you to connect?
If one of them got turned off somehow, then it's not running for Windows to use, and you won't get very far.

* Has any software changed since you were last able to connect?
Maybe, just maybe, something installed since you were last able to get online has bjorked the settings allowing you to connect.
If something has hijacked your settings, beat it with a Cluebat, change them back, and consider uninstalling said software.

I can't get my brain to shift into gear at the moment (lack of caffeine & sleep), but those are the obvious ones I can think of off the top of my head.
