Because when you're spiraling, you become more and more self-centered. As such, your focus is pretty much you, and your world.

For those *not* spiraling, you may only be one of a number of people they know in the same situation.

On a personal level, what you feel is more intense, esp the deeper you go, but whereas the other person doesn't feel your pain as much, they may well be feeling less pain, but from more people. That's in addition to whatever their own feelings may be (guilt, etc)

As such, they may be feeling more overall, than you are.
