the one were criminals have a greater right to life then their victims, you are correct. In a free state were the people have the rights and the means for self defense, the aggressor stands a much higher chance of ending up in jail or in the morgue. While it is true that not every attack will fail, in your world many more will succeed.

No sane person wants to harm or kill someone else, but not all humans are sane. It is immoral to deny people the tools that they need to stop an attack against their person.
