punishing us by taking away our computer/games time doesn't help much. If we're not motivated to work, releiving us of our source of fun will simply piss us off, not magically make us want to do something we already hate.
Besides, we'll just borrow keyboards, mice, power cords, etc. from friends, or go to the library or something. I once convinced my parents to take away my mouse, and tabbed my way through webpages. Annoying, yes, but it worked = P. Alternatively, there's books, sleeping, and many other ways to pass the time that don't involve homework or studying.
If you do decide to punish, go with constriction, not complete restriction. Mete out gaming time when homework is completed, but do not remove it alltogether, or you'll simply find your kid going to more creative means to sneak what they crave. |
