Of course, if I found a gun during the break-in, I wouldn't hesitate to pick it up. If I were a criminal, that is :-)

Now, as for stupid, or desperate criminals - I'd be surprised to find that they consider much to be a deterrent. Except possibly the presence of someone large enough that they would not likely be overcome by the criminal. Gun or no gun.
