Not just attempted murder?

I agree that gun control doesn't do much to increase or decrease the number of incidents of violent crime. However, if crime is for the purpose of material gain, I'm sure there are much better ways to lower criminal incidences than the threat of superior firepower.

The easy access to guns makes it much more likely that a criminal will kill, even if not intending to. And that is why I prefer gun control. It is not because I believe it will reduce the number of violent crimes - other measures are much more effective in doing that. It is because I believe it will reduce the lethality of violent crimes.
