Laptops across the border searched and copied by swisscheese2008-02-13 10:07:51
LOL! Canada does the same thing by Havoc2008-02-13 11:18:06
There is proof, but it's not the same thing by swisscheese2008-02-13 11:39:17

Hmmm, interesting, but not problematic by Havoc 2008-02-13 12:48:20
The same thing happens to people entering Canada.

I was looking on CBC, I admit, but there was precious little info that wasn't on a blog somewhere.

In any event, this is not unreasonable.

As for the racial profiling, claiming not to use it is silly. USE IT. The terrorists are not 87 year old caucasian businessmen. The terrorists are muslims from the middle east. The CNN story mentions a pakistani muslim being checked often - well, I approve.

If they DON'T check him because he might be offended, THAT is the height of stupidity.

I stick to it - if you do not want your laptop searched, do not travel with it. There are many alternatives. If you cannot think of any, there's always videoconferencing.

Also, the original TLP said that "your laptop, Blackberry and cellphone may be taken and perused, and the entire contents copied. What happens to the copied data is unclear." and this is nowhere to be found in the article you linked to. It did say that in some cases the item may be confiscated, but nothing about 'copying' or the like.
