The chance of an armed "mark" by chanceslost 2008-02-13 12:40:03
is sufficient to deter some criminals from attempting to relieve said mark of the burden of property.

How many homes do you think were robbed immediately after the widely-reported shooting in Texas?

Not everyone has to be armed. It would be interesting to see a psychological study of just what risk of being shot at (with or without result) would be sufficient to convince "career" criminals to seek other employment.

More firearms probably do not, however, help much in domestic violence and other crimes of passion.
