Only nice ones.

You can't stop people trying to hurt each other.
You can't stop people killing each other.
You can however make it harder for them.

A gun or a knife represent a significant reduction in how hard it is for the average person to kill someone. Killing someone with a newspaper requires a little more determination / skill / time.

The laws aren't intended to make people feel safe, they are intended to make people be safe. That is a significant difference.
How well they work is another matter but one thing is certain, the US approach would not work.
