Also, firearms are a totally different issue. It's not an invasion of privacy, or covert espionage, to forbid firearms in carry-on, or to verify that firearms in luggage are not loaded, etc. Besides, this is not just an air-traffic issue -- it concerns anyone crossing the border, whether by jet-liner, or by automobile, or whatever. This isn't even pretending to be a flight-safety issue. Don't confuse apples with oranges here.
