There is no need, in today's world of USB keys...

Pack the key in your checked luggage, don't worry about it.

If it's stolen, have a backup of the data at the office, any system with internet access can vpn back to the office to retrieve the data.

I can't see a need to carry any sort of data storage on a plane. Rent or borrow a laptop, DL the VPN client from your work or wherever, get the data, etc. Be sure to only use standard apps, of course, unless you can DL those as well over the VPN.
