At the worst point, I had them 3-5 days a week with pain levels between 6 and 9 out of 10. That lasted almost a year. Fortunately I was in grad school and had a flexible schedule/could work from home. Preventive meds helped a lot though it took 8 months to find one that worked for me and didn't have bad side effects (like making my hair fall out!). Going to a massage therapist every other week probably helped too as the pain caused all sorts of neck/shoulder tension that probably contributed to the problem. After about four years, the neurologist suggested cutting back the meds to see if the headaches would return. They didn't and I rarely get one now (maybe 2-3 a year).
