Stupid user storm...day 2. by rhinobird 2008-02-13 05:47:21
I just left work as stupid user storm day 2 was getting into full swing.

Someone accidentally sent an email about a new process to a bunch of Distribution Lists that added up to the whole company (which shall remain nameless). Instead of just deleting email that doesn't pertain to them, they (and by "they" I mean every mouth breathing trained monkey this company employs) hits the "Reply-to-All" button, with a note, usually saying, "take me off of this list" or , "Why am I getting these? I don't use the system that process is for". Which sends the message to everybody in the compnay...again.

Flashback to last night and I walk into this and our admins are frantically trying to stop it. Emails saying "DO NOT HIT REPLY TO ALL" are useless. Teams are set up to lock accounts of the guilty. Filters are put up...over night it looks good.

Right before I go home, it's starting up again. The simple filters (and outlook rules) would work, until the users started changing the subject lines. It's like they're malicously stupid. There's already some major throw back from the storm yesterday. Some of this spilled over into some government mail system and they weren't too happy about it. There was talk of fines for malicous email or something.

And for every one of the emails that I saw in my deleted items that had "remove me from this list", I just wanted to reply to that person and say, "Since the list is everyone in the company, you could quit your job to remove yourself from it. Otherwise, STOP F@#!$ING REPLYING TO IT!"

Thank goodness my shift is over. I get to see what kind of raging storm this turns into tonight...
