Define "Professional Software" by UGuardian2008-02-09 15:06:44
I would think professional would be... by varikin 2008-02-09 16:11:22
Software that is used in a professional capacity. Such as CAD programs, Adobe Creative Suite (in industry, not hobby use), medical software, and other software like that. It is not necessarily meant for the home user, but commercial. If you want to lump enterprise software in there as well, it could be debated. Stuff like Apache, IIS, Sendmail, Exchange, SunONE LDAP, Active Directory.

To me professional software is software you would ONLY use at work and it is not made for casual users. It is expected the end user understand what it does (by this I mean that I would expect a user of Pro/Engineer (a very expensive commercial CAD application) would understand how to design a part before using it.

Given my thought of it, professional software exists for all the different OSs, though one particular software may not be on them all.
