Forget about Apple. Jobs is a bigger control freak by toysbfun 2008-02-09 15:28:15
than anyone at MSFT. Besides Apple picks higher end hardware. An Athlon processor may meet your needs just fine, but Apple sells Core 2 Duos and Xeons. Those higher hardware margins help Apple subsidize OS and application development

Remember, for a product to displace another product, it needs to be compatible with its competitor. There are two ways to do this:
  1. A product like WINE, Cedaga, or ReactOS, to run Windows apps without Windows
  2. Replace apps for Windows with cross-platform OSS. OpenOffice.org for Microsoft Office, Darwin Calendar Server for Exchange, etc.
Once OSS is sufficiently Windows compatible, expect the migration to pick up speed.
