Poll: would you get a tattoo.. and if so where? :) by Garrinka2008-02-04 10:28:47
Parallel question: Who finds most tattoos to by ag__wyvern 2008-02-04 10:43:05
be just plain funny looking?

*raises hand*

No, seriously. I 'get' the tattoos that military people bear, often relating to their units. I don't 'get' most ornamental tattoos. For the most part, they just look silly. They seem to say 'look at what a rebel I am!'. All 4 billion of them.

Best way to put it is in that auto commercial from last year (for a nissan or toyota or somesuch). Guy rockclimbing, barbed wire tattoo on bulging bicep. He's tough!

Guy drops beside him - kid on back, weiner dog hanging from belt, regular joe. Makes the comment: "SUVs aren't just for extreme dudes. They're also for normal joes, who take their kids to school and their dog to the vet. By the way, nice tattoo. real original."

Just about sums it up for me :-)

That being said, I have seen a *few* tattoos that were truly artistic, that fit the body they were on, that were the perfect accessory. They looked as though they belonged.

Usually, they're small, they're colourful, but not gaudy. One, however, was in a NSFW picture (saw it when a coworker said 'hey look at this'). I'm going to guess it was body paint, because it would have been a heck of a lot of needlework -- floral and fish design down the left side of the body. If it *was* a tattoo, it was well worth the trouble. At least, until the body underneath begins to, inevitably, change shape. Then I think it would be just this side of horrendous.
