I guess it's all relative to location. Here in South Florida in the U.S, every home or apartment I've ever looked at always had a dining room. Some kitchens have a 'breakfast nook' where you can eat breakfast and lunch and such and maybe an informal dinner. My wife and I do tend to eat in the living room when we're the only ones eating, nice to sit back and relax and watch T.V. But we have one of those coffee lift up tables.
