The dude with the French Laundry got the atmosphere right, but I've never heard of one of those comfy little French restaurants he's trying to model the FL after trying to leave you wishing you could have just one more bite. Perhaps a good place to take a date or client, to impress them with your money, but the only thing the FL has in common with French Restaurants is the atmosphere. IMHO.
I worked for a French woman at a nearby restaurant. I asked her about FL. She said: "Ze nam ees apwopwiate, eh? Ze food was goot, but eet wass too pwetty. Een France, you mast eenjoy ze meal. Seet long, laughing weeth your fwens, talking about whatevah. Not be destrachted by a pretty - and spensive - meel! Ze French Laundry eesa JOKE!" And, with that, she handed me a dish towel and said: "Now go bus table four." |
