Welcome to the W:ET post of the day.
W:ET (short for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory) is a free first person shooter game for Windows, Linux and Macs that a large number of UFies play.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTICE: Training sessions at noon on Sundays
Until the end of February there will be training sessions on the server every Sunday at noon UF board time (20:00 GMT) for ~2 hours.
Jan 13: Oasis
Jan 20: Goldrush
Jan 27: Battery
Feb 03: Fuel dump
Feb 10: Caen
Feb 17: Radar
Feb 27: Desert Temple
We basically go through the map at a leisurely rate, pointing out the best ways to attack and defend. After that, two or three runs through the map in nice mode, and Q&A all along the two hour track between noon and 2 pm UFie time.
Newbies or anyone else who could do with the practice or learning the maps a little better are welcome to attend, just play nice.
In addition to the game please also have Teamspeak installed before joining, the training will be spoken not typed. A microphone is a plus but not required.
For further information please contact Klaranth.

Current server: mustang.snecomputingsolutions.com
Server alias: wolfet.uf-et.org (which should always work even if the server moves)
Current server status
Backup server: ufet.unserver.de (no ETPro and less maps)
Useful information about the server run for UFies (e.g. the password, the rules we play by and some advice for newbies) is available in the FAQ on UF W:ET.
There is also information and advice in the Enemy Territory diary however many of the links in the diary are now out of date.
In addition to this post and the Diary there is a W:ET discussion board for longer term discussions.
The UF W:ET Wiki contains a who's who list and additional information on the game.
Download and installation
The current and (hopefully) most accurate install instructions should be here.
Due to the wonders of the UFieverse the instructions below may be more up to date than those on the wiki or older than the wiki. Are you having fun yet?
The game:
In theory everything you need should now be available from files.uf-et.org. Start there and only worry about the links below if that is down for some reason.
Alternatively you can get the game (windows and linux ports) from the download section of the ET tab on http://games.activision.com/games/wolfenstein/
Windows: Install the patch to 2.60 from the above link. Grab et-2.60b.zip from http://austinkp.com/etpro/ or http://deverant.pp.fi/wolfet/ and copy the two .exe files into your W:ET directory. Grab the etpro-3_2_6.zip file from the second of those two links and install it.
Linux: See this post.
Maps
As with the game install all of the maps should be avalible on files.uf-et.org/.
In theory these should also auto download as needed however it is normally faster and kinder on the server to download them manually. If you don't know which ones you need then connect to the server, see which map it starts to download, exit and grab it by hand. Repeat until it's happy.
They are also available in bulk as .rar files from this forum post.
Or as zips sorted by campaigns via ftp from:
server - ftp://laabs.org
user - Videm
pass - DustPuppy42 (case sensitive - damn strong password rules)
Teamspeak:
Teamspeak is a 3rd party voice chat application that some players use to communicate during the game, it's a lot quicker and easier to talk than to type in the middle of a fire fight ;-)
A microphone and headset are a big plus but even without the microphone it is worth installing, you many not be able to talk but you can still listen to what others are saying.
The installer and more details can be found here.
Warning: Many of the links in the diary and some of the ones in the forum are out of date, the ones here should be current. If you find one that is dead please let me know.
Common command line options (add them to your W:ET shortcut):
+connect [server name] and +password [server password] (you can guess what that does.)
+r_mode -1 +r_customwidth 1680 +r_customheight 1050 (set a custom res if you have a widescreen monitor)
+cg_fov 100 (set the field of view, again, normally only of use if you are running wide screen. I find about 100 to work well, any more and things start to look distorted.
+set fs_game etpro (we run the etpro add on, this just forces the game to start in that mode)

In order to avoid excessive spamming of the board please try to keep all W:ET related posts within this thread.
For corrections/updates to this page please either email me (see my diary) or post here attn: my username |
