| Particularly when we've lost 77 servicepeople in a fight [CAUTION: Canada.Com has those stupid 'Eyeblaster' floating ads] that we didn't have to attend -- although I do support the decision to go eradicate the Taliban, for being the oppressive scum that they are. Yesterday's remarks from the US Secretary of Defense might've helped set off a bitter wave of anti-Americanism in Canada, but I'm satisfied with Secretary Gates' assertion that he was taken out of context. The media can be good at that. :p
Canada was largely ignored by the other Allies during WW2, despite our bloody sacrifices that not only helped save countless lives on D-Day, but also drove the enemy back further and faster during the early days of the Normandy Invasion.
But no biggie. Our servicepeople get accolades at home and from the countries they helped liberate in WW2; that's plenty enough. You can expect hackles to go up though when their abilities and courage are questioned. |
