They profess themselves to be Christians, yet they are a golden example of completely UNChristianlike behavior. They're hate mongers, and they thrive on it. You can see it in their eyes when someone attempts to debate them at one of their protests.
Have you ever noticed how they react whenever they're confronted? They're energized in the face of conflict. When someone tries to engage them in a debate (such as it is - they usually turn it into a yelling match) at one of their demonstrations, they strut around like peacocks for several minutes after it's over. I truly believe that's the biggest reason they picket these funerals - it's not to make any point, and even the chance to make the news is secondary - they just love to antagonize.
I think the biggest slap we could deliver to them would be to completely ignore them. News agencies should not give them any air time or print. We should refuse to acknowledge their presence at their rallies. When they realize they aren't getting any attention, they'll get louder and more obnoxious for a while, but after a time, they'd crawl back into whatever hole they came from.
Most parents will attest that this method works best for stopping the temper tantrums of toddlers. Personally, I believe the maturity of most of Phelp's followers isn't much different than that of the common two year old human. |
