Invoke: Tyop and any other electronic experts... by mekkanik_mike 2008-01-17 02:39:22
Take a look at this thingy.

I agree it's a pretty basic circuit, but I do have one question. I intend to use this circuit to power 4 sets of LEDs that operate in pairs (think turn flashers). I have the circuit largely figured out to use only once pair of ICs. The final setup will consist of five boards, one driver and four holding the LEDs. However, I do have the following questions;

  • My supply is 12v DC. Can I simply use a 5V power FET to drop the voltage to 5V, and still get it to work? Are there any pitfalls in using a power FET?
  • What are the precautions to be taken of one set of leads from the 4017 turn out to be approximately 3-4 feet long? Would dropping the voltage to 5V have an adverse effect?
  • Would it be best to have a 4017 mounted on each display unit and let the driver unit carry only the 555?

  IMHO a 7805 would be a better option for +5v by karl-henrik2008-01-17 02:51:05
