The source of the revenue doesn't matter. by Peace_man 2008-01-15 14:18:59
If a corp is inefficient it hurts the shareholders' bottom line. They could go broke. They are going to demand that their executive officers do what is efficient. This seems to be achieved partly by growing larger these days.

Government is much less directly responsible to its voters. And I think this is where the inefficiencies come in. An elected government official only has to answer to his voters once every four years. And the standards of what he must disclose are much lower than the standards of what a corp has to disclose to its shareholders. I guess the press is expected to cover that shortfall - and currently it isn't.

The drastic polarization that is taking place recently isn't helping voters very much either. It forces them to choose between the lesser of two evils - with both often dictated by moneyed interests.

I suggest that improving reporting of governments, and getting rid of money as the all-important means of getting votes, are two things that would improve government more than just about anything else.

Or you could simply give up hope of getting the benefits that an efficient government could give and clamor for a smaller one. That isn't my choice. I don't give up easily.
