or a "rocket problem" perspective. When you make an organization bigger, it has to devote more effort to managing itself. Overhead increases, and the costs increase out of proportion to the benefits. The issue with governments is that the cost of running them is incredibly dear. That, and the fact that the very nature of government encourages it to be wasteful and justify its own growth. All of that moves the "sweet spot" down pretty low.
