what if you were promoted, or moved to a different program, and another person came in to maintain it? Are you ever planning on retiring?
what if your company got another contract to which your code might be ported?
what if your robots turned on their human creators and the fate of the people you know and care about depended on someone going through the source to find a way to stop them, and you were out of town?

There is code on my program that is 20 years old. Of the three main guys who wrote it back then, two are retired and one sits down the hall from me.
