It was fed through the top with a stripper clip which was discarded when the bolt was closed on the first round. I could take photos to demonstrate but my '03 has a scope mounted. The only guns that fed from clips were the Garand and some obscure Italian and French designs that used an En Bloc clip. When the last round was fired the clip exited the gun.
