You live in a very homogenous society that is in many ways similar in attitude to rural America. Outside of our cities this is a very safe place to live. The lack of or abundance of firearms has almost no effect on the crime rate.

In our urban enviroments the lack of legal guns tends to embolden criminals. Most US cities have gun control law on par with or stricter then most of Europe. They have a large relatively helpless population to prey upon.
