My first one in the bay area was 25 miles but against the flow of traffic so it only took half an hour. I did have one in the UK that was about 30 miles. It took a hour on a good day, 90 minutes was more typical. After 6 months of that I've made sure that my commutes are always less than half an hour. I work with people who commute from SF down to Sunnyvale. Most of them only do that for a few years before it grows old. One person has been doing it for 12-13 years.
