Don't have guns at home? Or if you have them at home, keep them in a locked place? Like a cabin for firearms?

1st rule of safety: never leave a gun loaded
2nd rule of safety: Never keep bullets same place as the gun
3rd rule of safety: Dis-assemble the gun
4th rule of safety: Keep it locked up

This is IMO the best way to make sure such accidents don't happen
