I know the various Big Telecom companies did for pretty much ALL their software products - they all run on linux rather than Windows (true, most of it was Red Hat, but I think that was because they wanted a company to deal with for support reasons)

It could also do with the fact that UNIX was a Bell System baby for so long, and all these telcos were once ATT, back in the day.
