Football is the new "American pastime", many people watch it. The NFL and DirecTV (or was it Dish?) struck up a deal to force hundreds of current cable and satellite customers to switch to their network, without any warning. Time Warner's been running ads stating that they offered to run the game as PPV, with the entire proceeds going back to the NFL. The NFL declined. This is a pair of companies that are abusing a corporate monopoly for financial gain, and if it isn't against some law, then it should be.

(Note that I'm not arguing that Sen. Kerry isn't an idiot. Just that this time, he's standing on the right side of the issue, for the moment. Until his next press conference. When he'll claim he never supported it)
