reply=Uficle.AudioFiles.Conversion(); by kf4oyt 2007-12-26 14:49:14
Okay, I just got a question from a friend where I am totally out of my element.

They want to convert M4P files to play (audio only) on their Zune, and bought something online to do it. Something called 5star from Englemann Media. The company website seems pretty definite that it SHOULD do it, but exactly HOW doesn't appear to be obvious.

Some google-fu refers to something called an MP3 codec. If I'm understanding what I'm reading, this provides the functional support to actually perform the conversion. I'm guessing it shouldn't be needed to simply play files that are already in MP3 format.

So, two questions: am I even close to understanding what the codec does, and is there an easy way to tell if there is one installed on a specific machine?

I'm not at home at the moment (I'm at their house), and will be leaving in a couple of minutes to go back home. So I'll check back on the board in a couple of hours - at which time I will no longer have direct access to the machine involved. Directions and/or suggestions for more effective searches would be especially welcome - I'm ignorant enough in this area that pointing me to a good basic instructional article would be a help. And I suspect I'll be researching this for a while... 8))
