I would think of it as a programming challenge. Well, it is, in a way: you're trying to re-program your mother. Maybe you could get her to ask a different question next time. "Should I get you a B&N giftcard?" "A what?" "A gift card from Barnes & Noble?" "Who?" "Barnes & Noble!" "Never seen them." "They sell books." "Books? We have a bookstore." "You do?" "Yep." "What's it callled?" "Borders." :-)
