On useless Christmas gifts: by thread_killer2007-12-26 06:36:49
Hehehe - same here (way of) by Qcumber-some 2007-12-26 07:20:40
I have an agreement with my closest family that I don't want anything. My mother can't be helped but at least she only gives me some Christmas sweets I like (dark chocolate type of stuff).

From my sister I always get the stuff she likes to do - handcrafted stuff. Table-cloth and window decoration type. Despite the fact that she doesn't get anything from me. Despite the fact that I'm the tech guy and have curtains over the window all the time. Last year I got the sweetest wine she could find (she likes that stuff... but I'm into dry wine and strong peaty Scotch) and I had problems finding one who would like it. This year she made a game for everyone - it wasn't so hard to leave my package at my brother's place as a replacement for when they lose a part (they have two kids). I acknowledge that she makes handcrafted stuff - that's really nice part of the gift. But it is always stuff that I *cannot* use and *never* liked in my live.

On the other hand... with my best friend it somehow works... she got a working Rockbox installation on her iPod and a bottle of Salmiakki kossu which she really likes - both way before Christmas but she just declared the one a Christmas gift and the other one I declared "if you like it, keep the bottle as a Christmas gift" - and she got me a very beautiful candle (I love candles) and she talked some other very nice people who could not resist in giving me something in getting a high quality tea maker I was looking for but couldn't get in the normal consumer stores. With her all this Christmas stuff is somehow very easy and works even though I'm totally not the Christmas type of person...
