US has aquired position of great satan. Attacks against the US has a symbolic/propaganda value. The US would need to be replaced as great satan by someone/something else. just as soviet union was replaced by sadam hussien and now by muslim terrorist threat, should MT threat disappear a new threat would appear/be invented.
