However, it was not at that time the general consensus amongst climatologists that we were headed to a new Ice Age, whereas modern climatologists are in wide (but not unanimous) agreement that there is a general warming trend at present. Also, climatology has come a very long way in three decades. For instance, the development of numerical models (GCMs) has kept pace with the power of computers, and everyone on this board knows the difference between PC's of 1977 (like the PET) and those of 2007 (and supercomputers have experienced similar advances).
