...is high enough that there might be enough survival to support genetic learning...especially if there are plenty of alternate food sources available inside. But in a house setting, unless the mice are very-well established in the building, the entire population can be fairly effectively wiped out by controlling alternative food sources to the poison.

We've been lucky enough that the mice problems we've experienced have been limited to the onset of winter, when the mice move indoors toward the warmer climes of our house and garage. That leaves only a small window during which they're actively trying to get inside.
