And for the repercussions your town will likely face as the story becomes national.
I am impressed that "the state" allowed a 14 year old to determine his own fate. Usually, Child Protective Services or another similar agency intervenes and then the child is forced to undergo treatment.
I hope the parents aren't subsequently charged with negligent manslaughter or some other ridiculous charge if this gets politicized, as it very well could.
I'm going to keep my opinions on this matter to myself.
Personally, I don't want my death to be a symbol for anything. I would prefer not to die for my beliefs, but for some failure of a vital body part at some distant time in the future. I would prefer to go quickly with as little pain as possible, and with as little inconvenience to family and friends as possible, and with my mental faculties intact. |
