For "so called" Windows system administrators by romandas2007-11-29 00:53:09
And exactly how would YOU do it, oh wise one? by Havoc 2007-11-29 04:38:21
Assume, of course, that you have a network of 100 or so desktops and laptops, and that the 40 or so laptops have a 50% chance of being in on any particular day.

Oh yeah, there is no AD on the network, it is workgroup only, no domain controller.

Except for the secure network which has a Win NT 4.0 PDC.

And don't forget the 20 or so servers, over half of which are linux or solaris. The windows ones have quicktime installed, but cannot be rebooted without pre-scheduled downtime, and in any event never except between the hours of 10am and 3pm.

Quite frankly, I don't know of any way to do what you suggest should be child's play.

If you can do this on your net, then go for it. But I get the impression that you are complaining about your IT guys. If you think you can do a better job than they do - by all means, let them know and get a job with them so that they might learn from you.
