If I'm not mistaken, I believe your friend got the idea from the Book of Acts, Chapter 15? I read that particular passage in the New Living Translation; if you take the time to look at it in that particular translation, it's worth pondering over IMHO. (I admit I prefer the King James Version, but reading the passages in other translations tend to help my understanding of the writers' original intents.) Just some food for thought. Your friend's family and the lives he touched will be in my prayers.
