LCD TV Size Question by Snate2007-10-22 21:00:06
Make sure to take a look at the Plasma and DLP's by classic_jon 2007-10-22 21:19:08
somethign else to think about is the OLED's are on their way in a year (give or take)

I recently helped my sister pick out a TV and LOT of it has to do with personal preference. Before you read further remember this... No matter what people say pick out something YOU like while taking into consideration their advice. Just make sure that there is nothing about that TV that you would regret within the next 5 years.

Buy as big a one as you can afford that has at least 1 HDMI input and an optical audio or co-axial output. Also note that most companies are not making too many TV's that are smaller than 42" anymore because it is just not cose effective for them. Anything smaler will most likely be an LCD that is a monitor/TV hybrid. At 10 to 14' anything less than a 36" will seem small.

I like the DLP's (or the Sony Equiv) because you get the strong blacks and whites similar to the Plasmas and a good high refresh without some of the ghosting that is still plagueing the LCD's. The plasmas have brighter colors and the LCD's in many cases a sharper image. To me the strong blacks and whites are a key thing and right behind it is the Ghosting or afterimage from a fast moving object. That is why I still have my 36" Sony Wega flat tube...it weighs a ton but is an awsome picture.

Somthing to also think about is weight and how it will be mounted. If you will be moving several times in the next 5 years think about it. I can not move my Sony by myself...it weighs almost 300lbs... My sisters DLP I can almost pick up one handed. DLP's are LIGHT, then come the LCD's and then Plasmas in weight. Mounting is also key. Think about if it will be on the wall, on a stand, where and how big your surround sound speakers are and your furniture as well. If you buy a 50" TV will all of the things you have now still fit in the room? Get a measuring tape and see...seriously...

I do not regret buying my 36" Sony Tube TV, except for the weight when I move...;)
