Splitting Microsoft by Snate2007-10-22 14:16:43
Where does IE belong? by SlyW2007-10-22 14:37:21
I think it belongs in the non-OS company. by Snate2007-10-22 14:42:47

But I am old enough to remember whan an OS was a raw OS and
did not cost very much, and you had to buy other sofware off
the shelf including memory managers and disk compression tools.

I am not sure we want to go back to those dark old days.
But if i wanted XP then I would prefer to pay purely for XP
and not for

IE
WMP
XBOX
XBOX360
SQL server
...

Which is essentially what is happening.
I would like to see microsoft split only to stop it leveraging
it's monopoly. If the leveraging the monopoly can be prevented
another way then that is good too.

I think windows will be a monopoly operating system for
a long time to come.
I don't think letting that monopoly move into the
application sphere is a good thing.

If apple was in the position that microsoft was in the would
take the saem approach. If the approach was taken with microsoft
I would expect it to be extended to apple and the *nixs.

But there is little point complaining about fleas when there is
a 900 kg gorilla destroying your house.
