Splitting Microsoft by Snate2007-10-22 14:16:43
Where does IE belong? by SlyW2007-10-22 14:37:21
I think it belongs in the non-OS company. by Snate2007-10-22 14:42:47

Do we need to answer this again? by staticsan 2007-10-22 16:21:12
In Ubuntu, FF/Mozilla is not running until it's invoked. Look at a process list - it is not there. You can remove it from most distros and nothing much will fall apart. In fact, I know that nothing will in some of them because I've done it.

OTOH, in Windows, IE has been made an integral component of the OS. There are lots of things that rely on it. Windows Update is the obvious example, but part of the help/troubleshooting system does, too.
