| XP Admin password issue |

Hello!
I mostly lurk here, but I certainly know of the expertise that is prevalent on this board. I was wondering if any of you might by chance be able to help me with something?
A friend of mine I know over Skype is running an XP system. She decided that she wanted to password-protect it, and went through the process of setting it up. Everything seemed okay, until she shut the computer down and restarted it. Upon getting to the "Welcome" screen, she typed in the correct password, and Windows said the password was invalid. So, she's locked out of her computer now.
After some poking around, she found what we're both pretty sure is the problem. She lives in Bulgaria, and is using a Cyrillic keyboard. However, when she entered the password while setting it up, she used some software (something within Windows? I'm in the U.S., so I know almost nothing about this) to type the password in Latin letters. According to her, there's no way to switch from Cyrillic to Latin in the "Welcome" screen, and Windows rejects the keystrokes as typed in Cyrillic.
Is there a way to switch alphabets in the "Welcome" screen that she doesn't know about? Or, is there some sort of back door to get in to Windows to change or eliminate the password? Or, is the only alternate to wipe and re-install Windows? She doesn't have access to a second computer; that's why she asked me...we're only in touch over text messages at the moment.
If anyone has any suggestions or insight, I would love to hear it...thank you all in advance! |
