We have companies that are able to satisfy their customers and their shareholders equally, service both, without screwing either. We have governments that do the same. However, while the duty of the Govt should be to the people, it only truly owes allegiance to the people who vote for it. And if you look at the US voting record, you'll see clearly why the Govt is in the state it's in.
