The real problem is that the policies you advocate actually increase the divide. The current welfare system has whole communities locked into a never ending cycle of poverty and dependence.
Why would people choose to better themselves when:
a) They can make more on welfare then in an entry level job.
b) They are told over and over that other poeple own them a living.
We need programs that help poeple get independent. Right now most of our social programs promote dependency and discourage independence.
