Bizarre thought re: health care systems. by sgrunt 2007-10-22 10:38:10
Disclaimer: I am Canadian and have only minimal understanding of how health care works in other countries, but hopefully other people will be able to take this idea and expand upon it in either direction.

As I understand it, a large component of the system south of the border would be health insurance providers such as HMOs and the like. But by obtaining insurance through such a company you are, in effect, paying into an organisation which subsidises care to others as the need for it arises.

Substitute "the government" for "an organisation" and you get what would appear to be how the system works with (as the term goes in other threads I've monitored) a more socialised health care system.

That being the case, what's particularly objectionable about the government being the organisation to which you're making these payments?
