Would you like a house, TVs, phone, two cars or a corrugated steel/mud hut that you share with the live stock?
The first is normal for the poor in the US, the second is normal in much of the rest of the world. Anyone one who buy into the myth that the US has huge poverty problem is refusing to look at the facts.
You do realize that in many US States people who start working take a pay cut when compared to welfare? Too many programs require you to be completely unemployed before you're eligible. I know people who quit good entry level jobs (Read $10+ a hour.) to go on welfare so they could get into aid programs.
