In your system, where does all the money *go*? A depressing amount goes to HMOs and pharmaceutical companies. They lean on the government to keep it that way.

The amount spent on actual health care is pathetically small.

It is sad that capitalism has failed in providing the best service at the best price, but the failure is unsurprising. Health care is something you spend money on - those who need it most are often those who can afford it least, and it is impossible to plan for, due to the non-deterministic nature of events.

An insurance based system is all about the possibility of something *not* happening.

The public system just gets on with providing the best healthcare at the best value.

So, MediCare really provides the worst of both worlds - which is why it is *amazing* that it is cheap and efficient at all, let alone much cheaper and more efficient than the private sector.
