When I dispose of old utility knife blades I use duct tape to protect myself and handlers. Strip off a piece at least an inch (2.5cm) longer than the blade. Stick the tape on the blade, with 1/2 inch sticking out on either end of the blade, and about 2/3 of the tape sticking out over the edge. Fold the tape so that about 1/3 of the tape is now stuck to the other side of the blade and the folded part is over the edge. Make sure the ends are now stuck together as well. This will make the blade reasonably safe.
